He is still the God who heals
I am the Lord who heals you. God said that to Israel in the wilderness, and He has not retired the name. One out of every five verses in the Gospels involves Jesus healing someone. It was not a side project; it was what He did with His hands.
So when you pray for healing you are not asking God to do something out of character. You are asking Him to be who He has always been.
Ask like the people in the Gospels asked
Look at how sick people approached Jesus. A leper: Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean. A blind man: Lord, I want to see. A father: Have mercy on my son. A woman who did not even speak, who just reached out and touched His cloak.
None of them were eloquent. None of them explained why they deserved it. They were direct, they were desperate, and they came. That is the whole technique. The prayers on this page are written that way on purpose.
Healing and medicine are not rivals
Some Christians feel a quiet guilt about seeing a doctor, as if it means their faith was not enough. Put that down. Luke was a physician. Paul told Timothy to take wine for his stomach. Jesus never once told a sick person to skip the physician and just believe harder.
God heals through surgeons and antibiotics and physiotherapists and good sleep as surely as He heals through a prayer at a bedside. Pray for the doctors by name. Pray that the medicine works. It is all one prayer, answered through many hands.
When the answer is slow
This is the hard section, and it belongs here.
You will pray for healing, sometimes for years, and it will not come the way you asked. The Bible does not hide this. Paul asked three times and got a thorn and a promise. Jesus asked in the garden and got a cross.
What He promises is not that every sickness ends here. It is that He is in it: near to the brokenhearted, present on the sickbed, wasting none of it. And that for those who are His, healing is not in question, only its timing. Some healing comes on Tuesday. Some comes on the last day. Both are real.
So keep asking. Jesus praised the widow who would not stop knocking. And when the waiting is long, pray the prayer above for exactly that. It was written by people who have waited too.
A small thing that helps
If you are the one who is sick, or the one sitting beside a hospital bed, you know how the hours go: waiting, scrolling, waiting, scrolling. The phone fills the fear with noise.

You were good when Paul asked three times for his thorn to be removed and You said, "My grace is sufficient." You were good in Gethsemane when Your own Son asked for the cup to pass and it did not. So I am asking again, because You told us to keep asking. Heal. And I am also asking for something else: grace for the not-yet. Strength for the waiting. Peace that does not depend on a cure. How to pray a prayer for healing

Ask plainly. Jesus told us to ask, and the sick people in the Gospels asked directly: “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Do not hedge. Say “heal.”

Name the sickness and the person. “Heal Mum's lungs” is a truer prayer than “bless the sick.” God does not need the detail; you do, because it is what makes the prayer yours.

Pray for the doctors too. God heals through medicine as surely as through miracle. Pray for wisdom, steady hands, the right diagnosis, effective treatment. It is all Him.

Pray for the whole person. Body, yes. Also fear, loneliness, exhaustion, faith. Sickness attacks all of them. So should your prayer.
