Guidance is a Shepherd, not a vending machine
A prayer for guidance is easy to turn into a demand for certainty. Tell me the future and I will obey. That is not how Jesus leads people.
He is a shepherd. Shepherds walk with sheep. They do not email a map. Proverbs says trust Him and stop leaning on the story you have told yourself. James says ask for wisdom and you will get it — generously, without the sigh of a tired teacher. That is the deal. Not omniscience. Company, and enough light for the next step.

Closed doors count
People only want guidance that looks like a yes. A shut door is guidance too. Sometimes it is the kindest kind, and the one we fight.
If something has died that you were forcing alive, include that in the prayer. Ask Him not to let you kick it open. Ask Him to heal the disappointment so the next choice is not just rebound.
And if nothing is happening, that can be guidance to stay, or to wait, or to do the small obedient thing you have been skipping. God is not obligated to entertain a fog you refuse to walk through.
Other people’s paths are a bad compass
The fastest way to ruin a prayer for guidance is to open the phone and study someone else’s life for twenty minutes. Their job, their house, their timeline. That is not discernment. That is envy wearing a spiritual hat.

Ask before you build the spreadsheet. God is not against thinking. He is against being the last consultant you call.
